{"id":15046,"date":"2021-09-24T14:42:28","date_gmt":"2021-09-24T08:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nepallivetoday.com\/?p=15046"},"modified":"2021-09-24T14:42:32","modified_gmt":"2021-09-24T08:57:32","slug":"nepali-students-exchange-views-on-links-between-migration-and-sustainable-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nepallivetoday.com\/2021\/09\/24\/nepali-students-exchange-views-on-links-between-migration-and-sustainable-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Nepali students exchange views on links between migration and sustainable development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Kathmandu: <\/strong>Nepali students participated in a<strong> <\/strong>discussion on interlinkages between migration and sustainable development at an interactive event organized jointly by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to mark the SDGs Action Week 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes that migration if managed well, can be a powerful driver of sustainable development to both the countries of origin and host,\u201d said Sara Nyanti, the UN Resident Coordinator for Nepal addressing the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRemittances inflow to Nepal contributes nearly 30% of the country\u2019s GDP. It is crucial that we all play role in making Nepali migration work for sustainable development,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was organized with the aim to sensitize and bring the young people into discussion about how migrant youths and well-governed migration contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNepalis are working, studying, or living in over 100 countries across the world. Over a million Nepalis have returned home since the pandemic hit the country in 2020 &#8211; many of them empty-handed.
