{"id":2920,"date":"2021-05-07T17:13:18","date_gmt":"2021-05-07T11:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nepallivetoday.com\/?p=2920"},"modified":"2021-05-07T17:40:46","modified_gmt":"2021-05-07T11:55:46","slug":"supreme-court-orders-to-release-ex-ciaa-chief-basnyat-on-rs-500000-bail-bond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nepallivetoday.com\/2021\/05\/07\/supreme-court-orders-to-release-ex-ciaa-chief-basnyat-on-rs-500000-bail-bond\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court orders to release ex-CIAA Chief Basnyat on Rs 500,000 bail bond"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Kathmandu<\/strong>: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered to release former Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Deep Basnyat currently in judicial custody.<br><br>A joint bench of Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada sought a bail bond of Rs 500,000 while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed demanding his release.<br><br>Basnyat\u2019s son-in-law Prajwal Adhikari had filed a petition at the apex court last Friday allowing him to fight his case while on bail by demanding Basnyat\u2019s release on the ground of his ailing health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Basnyat has been remanded in custody since December 2020.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Basnyat has been infected with Covid-19 and is being treated at Om Hospital in Chabahil, Kathmandu. The writ petition stated that 69-year-old Basnyat has been suffering from health complications.<br><br>The CIAA had filed a case against 110 individuals including Basnyat on February 5, 2020, alleging them of playing role in transferring public land (Lalita Niwas) at Baluwatar, Kathmandu in individual\u2019s ownership.<br><br>Basnyat has been remanded in custody since December 2020 after the order of the Special Court on the charge of his involvement in Lalita Niwas land scam.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered to release former Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Deep Basnyat currently in judicial custody.
