Kathmandu<\/strong>: On the July 8 episode<\/a> of the weekly comedy program What The Flop, guest Shankar BC, a popular choreographer working at Nepali film industry, talked about his long experience and how he got a chance to rub his shoulders with the movers and shakers of the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For many, one particular incident in BC\u2019s telling stood out–for all the bad reasons. Days after the show aired, a snippet<\/a> of it was widely circulated on social media. It had to do with the controversial actor Bhuwan KC. One day, BC was assigned to choreograph a song that involved KC, who is known for playing romantic leads in the Nepali films of the 80s and 90s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe song-and-dance sequence in question had a step that entailed hugging the actress and caressing her shoulders,\u201d BC told host Sandip Chhetri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBhuwan Dai asked me to act out the dance step for him,\u201d BC went on. \u201cI did as told but he asked me to repeat it again and again. After the fourth time, he summoned me and asked, \u2018Did you know why I asked you to do the same step four times?\u2019. I replied, \u2018No\u2019. KC said, \u2018So that you can touch or hug the actress time and again\u2019.\u201d Both Chhetri and BC burst out in laughter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the episode and BC\u2019s telling of it hasn\u2019t sat well with many Nepalis on social media who have pointed out its inherent misogyny, insensitivity and objectification of a woman\u2019s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[The] audacity to say this openly on-air and the nerve to make a comedy out of it!,\u201d Hima Bista, executive director at Women Lead Nepal, wrote<\/a> on Twitter. \u201cMisogyny getting air time is how we normalize day-to-day sexism #disgusting<\/a> #BeResponsible<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
